Several on-board tools are available for time-saving, efficient cleaning. The dusting brush is perfect for such items like carved furniture, tabletops, books, lamps, lighting fixtures, Venetian blinds, baseboards, shutters, and registers. The furniture nozzle works great for upholstered furniture, draperies, mattresses, clothing, automobile interiors, and carpeted stairs. The crevice wand, which stores inside the extension wand, helps with hard-to-reach spaces like corners or along edges in places like dresser drawers, upholstered furniture, stairs, and baseboards. It can also be used for extra reach with the dusting brush and/or extension wand. The extension wand gives extra length to the hose and can be used with any of the above tools. There's also a powered hand tool that makes carpeted stairs and upholstery easier to clean.

The vacuum's handle has three positions: upright when using the various cleaning tools; operating position for general cleaning of carpet and floors; and low for reaching under furniture like sofas or beds--just step on the handle-release pedal to lower or raise the handle. For easy storage, the upper handle folds down making the vacuum more compact; just press the upper-handle release button and fold the handle down into the storage position. To return the handle to its working position, simply raise it into its upright position until it locks into place.

Other features include a headlight for better visibility, a 15-inch-wide cleaning path, and five height-adjustment settings for easily moving from a throw rug to bare floors. Its 31-foot cord could be a little longer because once you get started, you won't want to have to stop and replug. An instruction manual is included to help you care for and get the most out of your Hoover EmPower. This vacuum carries a one-year warranty. --Catie Unger
